Dear Michael,
thank you for this fresh mindshower! Clear, to the point. I feel like you are using my inside language which I am not able to clarify.
Thanks and all the best,

Gracias.

Thanks for the great comments so far. I'm very glad the personal nature of the article struck a chord with many of you. I'm certainly talented at being as confused, lonely and doubting as many of you ... although I do have my good days too!

Perfectly timed, Michael! And the personal-reflective makes it live, so I can say, "Oh, yes! I've been there too!" Now, to expand the circle...thanks so much!

Hi Micheal,

As always an inspiring blog. Af far as your third question goes: it's not too much me me me, because I recognize myself in the examples about you:

"I spend time setting 90-day goals ..., I have a strong tendency to forget them." - I have the exact same problem!

"Underneath my laid-back, nice-guy personality, beats the heart of someone who’s driven, obsessed, ambitious…. It’s not a bad thing, (per se) and I continue to work to balance the focus that energy can give me against the joylessness these can sometimes generate"
- Oh man, I could have written this. Getting lost in joylessness because I haven't reached my goals yet... Luckilly I recognize the progress I make most of the time, which keep the joylessness contained, but it is still a b*tch.
I also have the tendency to downplay results I have accomplished, because I just want to let go and move on once a deaddline has passed. Next time I will celebrate bigtime (when my master thesis is done and I graduate next month).

Thanks for the good advice (again :) )and I will definitely keep looking for my great work!

Wonderful article - and the self-reflective, make it personal, is critical. Without that you are guru and we are peons, and we keep thinking our struggles are due to our fundamental incompetence (or whatever our pet hangup is). By being open about your struggle AND how you manage it, you invite us to be open about ours (at least to ourselves!).

Thank you!
