From Gus - The Possibility Hunter
How would you like to spend a year devoted to locating the basis of happiness sourced from the Classics through to Oprah?
Gretchen Rubin is doing just that, spending a year “gathering these rules for living and report on what works and what doesn’t”. Check out her blog The Happiness Project.
In a recent post she talks about the effect joyous people can have on those around them and how to shield them from losing their joyousness and protect their (finite) well of enthusiasm.
The first thing you should ask yourself: Who are these wonderful people in your life?
Next, and maybe more important, how can you protect these assets – and they are assets that help you perform Great Work – from running out of their effervescence? As Ms Rubin notes: “We depend on the joyous ones, and we need to remember that their joy isn’t inexhaustible or unconquerable.”
Me, I’m lucky. My four-year old is (kind of) learning to play the guitar, and when she does something cool I give her her own 30 cent guitar pick. That 30 cents worth of joy goes a long long way to help me get through the rest of my day. Fantastic! It’s inspiration that’s easy to nurture.
