From Gus - The Possibility Hunter
Motivation.
Unlike me, I’m guessing Sir Ed Hillary, mountaineering legend, was not naturally a ‘not-until-Ricki-Lake’s-finished’ kind of guy. No doubt Sir Ed was a very motivated bloke, always finding new mountains to climb and hurdles to hurdle.
So, what was his secret?
Obviously he knew a thing or two about motivation, as well as crampons, Sherpas and the value of facial hair. Today I would like to share with you one of my Sir Ed-style motivational victories, (remember it’s all relative) and how I did it.
Plucked out of Laura Milligan’s The top 100 motivational blog posts of all time Fiona Harrold gives us five tips for maintaining motivation that I’m sure Sir Ed was all over, like fur on a yak.
And here they are… (Complete with Sir Ed/Possibility Hunter thought patterns)
1. Begin with the end in mind. (”How about that big one, Tenzing?”/”I can get at least 200 feet from home, I know it!”)
2. Get a plan (”We’ll go up until we can’t go up any more”/”Just.. breathe… don’t… faint”)
3. Break your task into chunks (”Base camp. Station one… Top of the world”/”Socks. Shoe. Ricki. No, Other shoe.”)
4. Challenge those fears (”I’m not going to die. I’m going”/”I am probably going to die. I’m still going.”)
5. Take action (”Let’s go”/”Let’s go!”)
